The Oasis Of Life Self Help Centre
About
The OLCSHG was established with an aim of supporting and caring for orphaned and vulnerable children, women and youths in the Juja Farm Village – one of the poorest areas in Kenya. OLCSHG is a community led organization. The people who are involved in decision making include the opinion leaders in the community, they collect data, identify the community needs and come up with community based solutions unique to their locality; amongst them are teachers, health workers, church leaders and government officials.
Mission
The mission is to provide a future free from poverty and prejudice to children, youth, women and those suffering with HIV/AIDS and the effects of AIDS.
Objectives
Assisting orphans access primary and secondary education by providing food, stationery, uniforms, personal necessities and provision of bursaries
Construction of a Flexible Community Center (FCC). During the weekdays, the FCC aims to serve basic primary education and offer vocational training for young people who have dropped out of school due to teenage pregnancy and, or poverty. The FCC will also serve as a Drop-In Centre and host a HIV/AIDS voluntary counseling and testing centre. At weekends, the FCC will be used to hold a cross section of life enhancing workshops and seminars, mainly for women and young mothers from business training to health and nutrition. In the safe environment of the FCC, women will learn to express their views and will be encouraged to select projects or issues they wish to work on and become more active and positive participants in their area, as well as role models for younger women.
